Brow lift is also known as forehead lift or eyebrow aesthetics.
A brow lift or forehead lift reverses the effects of gravity and tightens the soft tissues of your forehead. This process gives your forehead, upper eyelids and eyebrows a more youthful appearance.
There are various eyebrow lifting methods that involve incisions of different lengths in different areas (inside the hair, in the temple area, just above the edge of the eyebrows, etc.). In an eyebrow, the edge or 'tail' of the eyebrow should be higher than the inner tip, and the edge of the eyebrow should be further out than the edges of the eyelids. As we age, it is common for the eyebrow to take a straight or horizontal and low position. If a drooping brow is obstructing your expression, brow lift is a tested and approved method to rejuvenate the upper third of your face. Every year, thousands of people undergo successful brow lift surgery and are satisfied with the results.
When Should Brow Lift Be Considered?
- If you have a sagging or low eyebrow position
- If you have deep horizontal wrinkles on your forehead even though you do not make gestures,
- If you have frowning lines between your eyebrows or on the upper part of your nose,
- If you have sagging skin or fatty tissue over your eyes.
Advantages of the Process
-Repositions low or drooping eyebrows that droop over the upper eyelid
- Raises eyebrows to a fresher-looking and youthful position
-Makes you look happier, friendlier and more approachable
Disadvantages of the Process
-The choice of brow lift technique is crucial for the result, so this procedure is highly dependent on the clinician.
-Forehead lift does not improve drooping eyelids or crow's feet, so you may also need blepharoplasty (eyelid plastic surgery) and botox application.
Is brow lift suitable for you?
The following are some common reasons you might want to consider getting a brow lift:
If the outer part of your eyebrow droops causing a sad expression.
If the middle part of your eyebrow hangs down and makes you look angry.
If you have frowning lines between your eyes, even though you don't make gestures.
If you're a woman and can't put makeup on your upper eyelid because saggy tissues have covered the surface area as you age.
Rely on your plastic surgeon's assessment to find out if you can benefit from brow lift, blepharoplasty, botox procedures individually or in combination.
If you are in good general health and have positive thoughts and realistic expectations about the procedure after being informed about the procedure, you are most likely ready for brow lift and eyelid surgery procedures.
Post-surgical care and recovery
Your surgeon will tell you how long it will take you to return to your normal activity level and work. After surgery, you and your attendant will receive detailed instructions on your post-operative care, including:
It is very important that you follow all patient care instructions provided by your surgeon and be aware that time to recovery varies depending on the patient.
After brow lift, your surgeon may recommend applying ice or cold around the eyes for 48-72 hours to reduce swelling. It's best to have your back and head kept high when you sleep for about five to seven days. Your surgeon will make an appointment for you to come for a check-up in a few days after surgery so that he or she can evaluate your recovery. Pain in eyebrow lifting is not usually a major problem. However, there is some ear-to-ear discomfort and tightness in the upper part of the head and eyebrow. Most patients describe their foreheads as feeling tight and slightly numb on the night of surgery. You will be given pain medication if you need it. A drain is usually not needed in the eyebrow area when brow lift is performed, but if your surgeon deems it necessary, a drain can be applied for 1-2 days. Temporary bruising, swelling and numbness are common in the first days after surgery. Maximum swelling occurs 3-4 days after surgery and starts to decrease on the fourth or fifth day after surgery. You may need to go to the toilet frequently due to the intravenous fluids given to you during your surgery. Drink plenty of fluids to compensate for dehydration. As your body begins to balance itself, it will get rid of this extra 'water weight' and return to normal.
The bruise caused by eyebrow lifting is less visible on the eyebrow than other areas. As a result, any bleeding usually collects under the eyelids and bruises the lower lids even if the lower lids are not operated on. Bruising usually peaks on the third to fifth day and resolves within two to three weeks. Showers and baths are allowed in the days after the surgery. Use conditioner to help wash and clean matted or knotted hair during surgery. Be careful when applying hot water, hair dryer and comb; your scalp will be numb, so they can damage your skin and/or hair.
Limitations and Risks
Fortunately, significant complications from brow lift surgery are rare. This surgery is usually performed without major problems. The risks and possible complications of the surgery should be discussed during the consultation. The risks in most surgeries are similar. Some of the potential complications of all surgeries include:
Unexpected reaction to anesthesia
Hematoma or seroma (accumulation of blood or fluid under the skin that may need to be removed)
Infection and bleeding
changes in sensation
Unwanted prominent scar
allergic reactions
adjacent nerve damage
Unsatisfactory results that may require additional procedures.
You can help minimize certain risks by following your plastic surgeon's advice and instructions before and after your brow lift surgery.
