Augmentation mammaplasty is one of the most popular mammaplasty surgeries among women today. The small size of the breasts, one of the important symbols of femininity, leads women suffering from this problem to research augmentation mammaplasty. Although augmentation can be done using mammaplasty fillers, it is most often performed using silicone prostheses and is intended to create plumper and larger breasts. It can be applied with silicone prostheses or filling methods to lift a small amount of sagging breasts and to remove some breast asymmetries.
The latest technologies are used in the production of silicone prostheses, they are safe for human health, and in the United States alone, vaugmentation mammaplasty was applied to 290,467 patients in 2016.
In addition, silicone breast prostheses are not only used for aesthetic purposes, but also for reconstructing breasts in some patients after breast cancer surgeries.
Apart from silicone prostheses, augmentation mammaplasty can also be performed using artificial fillers. However, such fillings are not permanent. Injection of adipose tissue (fat graft, lipofilling) can provide more permanent results with multiple sessions.
Apart from the silicone prostheses used in augmentation mammaplasty, there are also prostheses that can be blown up with Serum Physiological and whose membrane is made of silicone. The most preferred and most widely used type of prosthesis in augmentation mammaplasty is silicone filled prostheses and they are produced in drop silicone (anatomic) and round silicone (round) shapes.
During augmentation mammaplasty, the most commonly used way to insert prostheses through the skin are;
1- With a “c” shaped incision from the lower border of the areola (periareolar),
2- With a horizontal incision of about 4-5 cm just above the breast (inframamarial),
3- Prostheses can be placed with an incision made from the front of the armpit.
The option to be preferred will also determine the area where the surgical scar will remain. In fact, there is a fourth way to place the prosthesis; navel. However, in this way, only silicone-sheathed prostheses that are inflated with saline can be applied, and this method is not routinely preferred. Prostheses that are inflated with saline can be placed using shorter incisions than silicone-filled prostheses.
Apart from all these, another important detail you need to know about augmentation mammaplasty, regardless of the way, shape and feature of the prosthesis will be used; There are alternatives in terms of the space where the prosthesis will be placed. In augmentation mammaplasty, prostheses can be placed under the breast tissue, under the pectoral muscle membrane, completely under the muscle or partially under the pectoral muscle.
A detailed examination of all these variables will be done by your plastic surgeon before the surgery and your augmentation mammaplasy planning will be carried out by deciding which combination will be more suitable for you.
Augmentation mammaplasty takes 1-2 hours under local or general anesthesia and you can leave the hospital the same day or 1 day later. You should not take a bath for 2-3 days after the operation. If your dressing is covered with waterproof products, you can take a bath within 24 hours. Drain usage, first opening and renewal times of your dressings may vary from surgeon to surgeon. If used, you may see plastic tubes protruding from both sides of your chest wall and plastic medical supplies called “drains” at the ends. These are placed in the surgical field to prevent the accumulation of blood and other fluids and are removed by your doctor 1-2 days after augmentation mammaplasty. You don't need to be afraid, they don't hurt much when they are removed, and you can take a bath 1 day after they are removed.
After breast augmentation surgery, you should use a sports bra for 4-6 weeks and rest for 7-10 days apart from your daily routines. Heavy exercises that use your arms are also prohibited for 6 weeks.
Augmentation mammaplasty prices vary due to many variables (technique and difficulty to be applied, prosthesis features to be used, hospital where the surgery will be performed, etc.) and therefore, get information from your doctor for the most accurate breast augmentation prices.
